Certification/Accreditation
The program of studies has been accredited by the ZEvA agency. It was awarded the Quality Seal of the German Accreditation Council.
Course prerequisites
A qualifying Bachelor of Engineering degree in "Electrical Engineering" or in related fields (e.g. computer science, mechanical engineering, mechatronics), or an equivalent academic qualification is the entry requirement for this Master’s course.
A working command of technical and scientific English, as demonstrated by an adequate test score of an internationally accepted agency or equivalent, is mandatory.
A practical working knowledge of German is highly recommended, and will be indispensable during industrial placement. Students are therefore strongly advised to attend intensive German classes concurrent with the academic courses, and specifically offered for this study program.
The MSE exam board may walve parts of the curriculum if equivalent prior training can be demonstrated or may request attendence of special preparatory courses to make up for gaps in past.
Student numbers
About 40-50 per year [German, European, Overseas].
Duration of studies
Beginning of the programme: winter semester [1st September of each year] only. Duration of the study programme is four semesters. 2 full time taught semesters, industrial placement [20 weeks], and Master´s projekt [6 months].
Course Dates
1st semester [incl. induction course]: roughly 1 Sept to 31 Jan including language course and cultural program
2nd semester: roughly 1 March to 10 July
Industrial placement and Master's project afterwards [together 46 weeks].
Award of M.Sc. Degree
To obtain the MSc, the student must gain a minimum of 120 credit points:
- 2 semester full time studies = 60 credits
- Industrial placement (20 weeks) = 30 credits
- Master's project/thesis = 30 credits
Assessment
Assessment will be based on a mix of exam results and course assignment work. The examinations will normally take place at the end of the semester.
Fees
The fee for your student identity card is payable every semester. The amount is subject to change and will be announced every semester (currently 213,50 Euro ). It is at the same time your semester ticket for public transportation.
No Tuition Fees! This postgraduate course is supported both academically and financially by the German Ministery of Education, Science, Research and Technology - meaning that there are no tuition fees for students.
Accommodation and cost of living
The monthly cost of living in Darmstadt is estimated at roughly 850 Euro.
